Red Rock Canyon Campout

In case you were not at the Troop meeting Court of Honor last night: Because of the federal government shutdown, we cannot go to Santa Cruz Island in the Channel Islands National Park. Therefore we will be going to Red Rock Canyon State Park.

This will be car camping, so a normal car-camping equipment list is attached.

We are assuming that everyone who already signed up for the weekend camping is going. Scouts will need a bag Saturday lunch. Those scouts signed up to bring patrol food need to make sure they have the food and can consider using a fire for cooking.

We will need firewood for campfires, so please bring some when we meet on Saturday morning at 7:00 am at the church. We are also assuming all adults signed up to go (camping and/or driving) are still going. This trip will cost less, so we will work on reimbursements on the campout. Any changes must be communicated with me.

Finally, we will reschedule a trip to Santa Cruz Island since it is such a great venue.

Santa Cruz Island Campout

A trip of a lifetime is coming up October 12-13!!!

Does your scout want to camp on an island?

Does he want to kayak in ocean caves?

We are heading out to Santa Cruz Island/Channel Islands National Park.

We will meet at 6:30 am at the church, load cars and drive to the Channel Islands Harbor in Ventura. Then we will load up the boat, depart at 9:00, and arrive after about an hour at Scorpion Cove on Santa Cruz Island. For the rest of Saturday and Sunday we will explore the island and its wildlife by land and sea. We will have several kayak outings, hikes, ocean explorations, and more. We will leave the island at 4:00 Sunday (first boat out), so after the boat ride back, unloading/loading in Oxnard, and drive back to LA, the scouts should be back by 7:00 pm.

The cost is $120 per person which includes the boat trip, kayak rentals and transportation, campsite costs, and meal costs. This is much more than most of our trips, but this trip is special with many new activities for the scouts.

There is a lot of planning for this trip and limited space, so it is important that this form and payment be made on or before Monday September 30.

For general information, see:
